I am a lawyer and father of two increasingly less small boys, living that widower life in Greensboro, NC. My wife, Nina Riggs, died in 2017 at age 39, after living with metastatic triple negative breast cancer. She wrote a memoir called The Bright Hour, in which she put her skills as a poet to use as a storyteller, relating the experiences both loss (of her own mom to cancer, of her role as a mom to our kids, etc.) and mortality (her own as she faced terminal illness). You should read it. I’m kind of a major character in the book. But it’s got lots of spectacular writing and other redeeming qualities, too! I’m just trying to process the past few years and figure out what comes next.
